Sportfreunde Stiller are celebrating their 30th anniversary together with their fans—as you would expect. The trio from Germering, near Munich, has always shown a strong connection to their audience—and a great deal of self-deprecating humor, evident in the deliberate grammatical error in the tour's title, which is named after their first song together. In May 2026, as part of their "30 wunderbaren Jahre" (30 Wonderful Years) tour, Sportfreunde Stiller played at the Palladium in Cologne, where Rockpalast recorded their concert—including the song "Ich, Roque." 💡 You can find the full concert here: https://1.ard.de/SportfreundeStiller_... Peter Brugger (vocals and guitar), Rüdiger Linhof (bass), and Florian Weber (drums) make up Sportfreunde Stiller. Their name combines their enthusiasm for physical exercise with the name of their local league coach, Hans Stiller (of SV Germering). Their fun, German-language indie rock features catchy choruses, ensuring their sold-out gigs are always defined by shared celebration and loud sing-alongs. The three Upper Bavarians achieved their national breakthrough with their third album, Burli*, which reached the top ranks of the German-speaking charts in 2004. In 2007, the "Sportis" not only took home the 1LIVE Krone award for Best Band but also released their fifth album, *La Bum*. Another highlight in the indie rockers' history was the recording of an *Unplugged concert at the Bavaria Film Studios two years later. They have written World Cup hits (such as "'54, '74, '90, 2006"), earned gold and platinum records, and—over the course of their career—performed alongside bands like Ash, Nada Surf, Franz Ferdinand, and the Kaiser Chiefs. It has been 30 years: they first came together in 1996 and emerged from the rehearsal room with the track "Wunderbare Jahre"—a "cheeky manifesto of our adolescent existence," says drummer Flo. After two EPs, ten albums, and an incredible number of concerts, they now want to pay tribute to their fans with an anniversary tour. To mark the occasion, WDR Rockpalast is recording their concert at the Palladium in Cologne on May 11. Singer and guitarist Peter Brugger describes the idea behind the anniversary tour like this: "For an individual, turning 30 means saying goodbye to youth and facing the daunting prospect of 'real life.' For a band, turning 30 means: 'Hooray, we’re still alive!' (loosely inspired by Milva). And we want to celebrate with you the fact that this band has been part of our lives for so long—indeed, shaping and inspiring us in such a significant and positive way!"
