✋Hello! Today we will visit a Buddhist temple that was once one of the mighty Nara's "Seven Great Temples". The temple was repeatedly destroyed by civil wars and fires and then rebuilt. The place is also one of the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Nara. Kofuku-ji is a temple founded in 669, which was originally located in Kyoto, and was moved to its current location in 710. As an important center of the Buddhism, Kofuku-ji had a significant influence on the government of the imperial court, and for centuries served as the family temple of the Fujiwara clan, which dominated politics and prospered. After 794, when the capital was moved to Heian-kyō (Kyoto), many Nara temples lost their value, however, Kōfuku-ji retained its importance thanks to its connections with the Fujiwara family. In 1717, a fire destroyed most of the temple complex, and although it was rebuilt, some important buildings, such as one of the three golden halls and the "Nandaimon" gate, were never rebuilt. The temple grounds contain notable national treasures such as: East Golden Hall, Five-storied pagoda, Three-storied pagoda, North Octagonal Hall and 4 Buddhist statues.
