Walking Around Nishinari and Tengachaya: Osaka’s Old Downtown Atmosphere I’m on a journey toward Osaka, passing through various towns before eventually returning to Tokyo. From Nara, I traveled to Osaka and stayed at a hotel near Tsutenkaku Tower. From there, I explored the nearby neighborhoods on foot. The anime and manga Jarinko Chie depict the old downtown areas of Osaka, and it’s said that the setting was inspired by the Nishinari district. As I walked around the area near Tengachaya Station, I felt that the atmosphere of that era still lingers in the streets today. Even in these traditional neighborhoods, I now see foreign tourists enjoying meals in small local eateries.
