On October 15, 1998, Jorge Daniel "El Pelado" Brítez left his house hoping to buy his mother a gift for Mother's Day. He was 11 years old, dreamed of becoming a soccer player, and was about to be tried out for Talleres de Córdoba. Minutes later, a homemade bomb ended his life in the middle of the street in El Alcázar, Misiones. What followed was an investigation fraught with suspicion, technical evidence, judicial errors, and an international escape. More than 25 years later, the crime remains unsolved. Who planted the bomb? Why? What happened to the prime suspect? This is one of the darkest—and most forgotten—stories of the Argentine justice system.
