500 Kühe erobern die Berge! Alpaufzug Engstligenalp 2026 hautnah erlebt

The Grand Cattle Drive to the Engstligenalp 2026 On June 20, 2026, the time had come again: the traditional cattle drive to the Engstligenalp above Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland! We were there live with our cameras and captured the most impressive moments of this unique spectacle for you. Even in the early morning hours, some still in the dark, the herdsmen and their animals set off from the valley station on the steep, rocky ascent. Around 500 animals – cows, cattle, calves, and goats – covered over 600 meters of elevation gain in a zigzag course up to the high plateau of the Engstligenalp at almost 2000 meters above sea level. Accompanied by the sound of countless cowbells and the shouts of the herdsmen, the impressive herd of animals made its way up the narrow mountain path, one after the other – a true feat of strength for both humans and animals, and one of Switzerland's most impressive natural spectacles. For the next ten weeks, the animals will spend their summer on the lush green pastures of the Engstligenalp before returning to the valley in late summer (descent from the alpine pastures). In this video, we take you with us to the Engstligenalp, showing you the preparations, the ascent, and the first impressions of the high plateau – including the herdsmen's families who have kept this tradition alive for generations.
