Studying, working, playing, she was on the threshold of a promising life. But, tragically, last October this beautiful and vivacious woman was savagely beaten to death in the gymnasium of the school where she had a part-time job. The level of violence was shocking – so too was the identity of the man who killed her. Paul Thijssen, 24, Lilie’s ex-boyfriend and co-worker at the school, was by all accounts a model citizen. That he could commit such a heinous crime was inconceivable to most who knew him.
