Hundreds of bighas of fertile farmland remained submerged under four to five feet of stagnant water, making cultivation impossible and causing heavy losses to local farmers. The crisis affected much more than agriculture. Roads remained blocked for months, forcing villagers to walk through waist-deep water just to reach schools, banks, police stations, and nearby markets. Many farmers lost an entire cropping season and feared that their land would remain barren indefinitely. After repeated appeals to authorities failed to produce results, the villagers sought help and presented their concerns through the Panchayat. Within a remarkably short period, assistance arrived in the form of 1100 feet of heavy-duty pipeline, a 15 HP motor, starter equipment, copper electrical cable, fittings, and all necessary accessories required for emergency drainage operations. Since the land was completely waterlogged, underground installation was not immediately possible. Instead, temporary surface pipelines were laid and water was continuously pumped into nearby drainage channels. The effort successfully cleared almost the entire affected area, allowing farmers to sow their fields on time. Today, wheat crops are standing across fields that had remained submerged for months. Village roads have reopened, farming activities have resumed, and farmers are optimistic about a productive harvest after years of uncertainty. Residents describe the transformation as a turning point that restored both livelihoods and confidence within the community. The story of Latthapuri is not just about water removal. It is about restoring access, reopening fields, and bringing life back to a community that had almost accepted waterlogging as its permanent fate.
