There are 5 different magmatic volcanic eruption types, ranging from those that are low in explosivity, and produce gentle and flowing lava, such as those seen in Hawaii, to others that are so large and powerful that they can consume vast swathes of land when they erupt, such as those seen at past supervolcanic eruption sites like Toba, and Yellowstone. There is a few key reasons why there is a difference between the way each volcano erupts and by the end of this video, you'll understand exactly why volcanic eruptions differ and you'll also understand the underlying mechanisms behind it, as well as the differing fuel types which predetermine how violent or gentle an eruption will be. We will dive deep into the magma chamber of each volcanic eruptive type, to understand the differences between each eruption, what creates this difference, and how the eruption plays out as a result of these differences. This video will focus on all five Magmatic volcanic eruptions. When defined, magmatic eruptions are those that produce juvenile clasts during explosive decompression from gas release. They range in intensity from the relatively small lava fountains on Hawaii to catastrophic Ultra-Plinian eruption columns more than 30 km (19 mi) high, bigger than the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 that buried Pompeii.
