YEREVAN 🇦🇲 The Capital You Don't Expect! Cascade, Mother Armenia, Markets, and Beer Festival 📝 Our journey to Armenia finally begins! 🇦🇲 In this episode, we land in Yerevan and, after exchanging some local currency, we'll show you how to get to the city center from the airport for very little money, comparing the various options available. The minibus drops us off directly in the spectacular Republic Square, the heart of the Armenian capital. From here, we begin our walk to the hotel, but as always, we can't resist the temptation to pop into a supermarket for our "Weird and Not-so-Weird" column. Among the shelves, we discover many curious products and try a local specialty similar to a panzerotto: kartofelnik, a potato croquette filled with beef, truly delicious. After check-in and the usual Room Tour, the evening continues with a pleasant surprise: we meet Stefano, a friend we met years ago on a trip to Morocco. Together, we enjoy a nighttime stroll through Yerevan's elegantly illuminated streets, discovering the city's vibrant atmosphere. The next day, we begin our exploration at the famous Yerevan Market, a riot of colors, aromas, and flavors. Here, vendors offer us dried fruits, spices, traditional sweets, and countless artisanal products, demonstrating true Armenian hospitality. A few steps away, we reach the majestic Cathedral of St. Gregory the Illuminator, one of the largest churches in the Caucasus, built to celebrate Armenia's 1,700th anniversary as the first country in the world to officially adopt Christianity. After a relaxing lunch in the park in front of the cathedral, we take a taxi using a local app to reach the imposing statue of Mother Armenia, a symbol of the Armenian people's strength and peace, located in the charming Victory Park. Continuing our walk, we cross the park to the Monument to the 2,750th Anniversary of Yerevan, built to celebrate one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. From here, we begin the descent down the spectacular Cascade, a gigantic monumental staircase composed of panoramic terraces, fountains, gardens, and contemporary art. At its base, a veritable open-air museum awaits us, featuring sculptures by international artists, including the famous works of Fernando Botero. The day ends in style at the vibrant Yerevan Beer Festival, featuring craft beers, music, street food, and a contagious party atmosphere. We meet Stefano again for a wonderful evening together. Before returning to the hotel, we make one last stop at a supermarket to pick up some local specialties.
