Beinn Tulaichean & Cruach Ardrain
An ascent of Beinn Tulaichean & Cruach Àrdrain from the Inverlochlarig Car Park, summit height at 946m (3,104ft) & 1046m (3,432ft) respectively. An early start to this one, as usual. We parked up at the Inverlochlarig car park and made our way towards the Inverlochlarig farm. This is the standard route of ascent to these two, although there are several different routes to be followed. As I understand it, they would be more of a challenge and require a bit more experience. The initial walk in is on single track farm road and is very easy to walk and navigate on. You cross a small bridge over the Inverlochlarig Burn and immediately on your right there's a stile. There's a sign here but this would be easily missed if you weren't looking for it. Once the stile is crossed there's a short off-road walk past a small building that takes you up on to the access road. I believe this is to allow you to by-pass the farm. Once on the access road this is followed to a large white quartz stone. This is the indicator (for me) to start the ascent. There is no path here. Pick your route and go for it! In winter, I would be very nervous about this as I wouldn't know what's under foot, but the conditions we had on the day were brilliant and I found it no problem ascending the South Eastern slope. Once the bulk of the mountain has been dealt with, it was a very gentle rise to the summit cairn. Descending the bealach and the ascent of Cruach Ardrain is fairly straight forward. I can imagine in poor visibility this could be difficult as at sections, there is no obvious path to follow. The summit of Cruach Ardrain is had fairly quickly here and is a fine view point for the surrounding mountains and lochs. The descent is by the bealach where at the lowest point between the two Munros is a marker cairn indicating where to leave the path. As with the ascent, there's no real path to follow so, pick your route and take your time. The wet grass here can be very slippery. Once you meet the access road back to Inverlochlarig farm, the hard work is done and another two Munros completed.
