Here's the third and final lesson in our three part series teaching you to play "St. Louis Blues" arranged for fingerstyle guitar. In this lesson, we'll cover the C section. In this section, we return to a 12-bar blues in G which differs from the one we played in the A section, offering us some more fun variations and themes from a classic form. Published in 1914 by W.C. Handy, it is considered the first blues song to ever be written down and published as sheet music. It was the 2nd most recorded song of the 20th century after "Silent Night." Start by listening to the iconic Bessie Smith recording from 1925 (with Louis Armstrong on cornet). Some other favorite versions for me include: David Grisman, Charlie Hunter, Fats Waller and John Fahey. I'm sure you will find many other great ones.
