How to buy a bike in Vietnam It's easier than you think!!
#vietnambymotorbike #theperfecttour #travel #tigit #honda We’ve had a lot of questions in regards to buying a bike and riding in Vietnam. Most people are overwhelmed at the thought or too nervous to try it. So we put together this video, giving you details on where to buy and what to buy. It’s not for everyone but We believe it's the best way to see all those places away from the tourist hotspots and gives you the freedom to take the time and discover what Vietnam has to offer. This time though we decided to buy the bikes instead of hiring as we were here for the long haul. We bought them through a company called “Dung Motorbikes” in HCMC. Go see Juan. It was a simple process and like all Vietnamese, very helpful and obliging. Another avenue is to buy a bike from someone who has done their trip and needs to sell it before returning home. You can snag a bargain and most of the time it includes helmets etc. Check out Facebook for vietnam motorbikes for sale. Or marketplace. We purchased our bikes for $550 each. For us the only way to really immerse yourself in this country is by bike. If you have the time, it’s magical. Okay maybe not when it's raining, but we try to avoid that as well. If of course you do not wish to ride yourself, there are Ezy rider tour options which is a great way to experience motorbiking in Vietnam WHICH BIKE AND WHY. We went with the HONDA WAVE. Mechanically they are identical to the blade. They are slightly longer and the seats more comfortable ( even though I already have extra padding lol) and the great thing about these bikes is that they can be fixed anywhere at anytime. You can be stuck in a remote area and magically someone comes along and within a few hours your bike is fixed and you are on your way. So far our only issues has been a flat tyre on “Buffy”. (ken named his bike so mine of course is called the "Vietnam Slayer"). Every 1000kms you need to get an oil change which costs about $12 with a bike wash included. A new tyre is about 30 aud that’s a new tyre and tube. Spare parts are easy to get with a new mirror being approximately $6 aud. Make sure that the bikes you buy or hire come with the registration blue card and that the VIN numbers match. We get approximately 200km per tank but of course if your are fanging it like Rossi or doing a lot of mountain ranges it can chew the fuel up pretty quickly. Another reason not to ride like a crazy person. These bikes are semi automatics. What that means there is no clutch and you just use your left foot and go through the gears from Neutral 1 to 4 and then with your heal, go back down the gears. I generally take off in 2nd as it’s a little smoother. Front and back brakes. Engine size is 110cc. Easy to ride, and park anywhere. We also purchased good quality helmets in Da Nang and Ken organised intercoms before leaving Oz so that we could communicate and keep each other informed of what’s coming up, a very good safety item as well. The range is about 1 km although they can get a bit sketchy when riding on winding roads. Our bags are waterproof 60 l capacity and easy to attach to the racks we had made We bought those in Da Nang for $10 aud!!! Best purchase so far. For some reason though Ken likes to disconnect the intercom every now and then……. Not sure why… For us riding the mountain roads are the nicest. Not all the coast roads are spectacular especially in the south. We highly recommend you do the Ho Chi Minh Road, as it is an unforgettable experience.
