FULL Cass Scenic Railroad Parade of Steam 2026 - Listen to Those Whistles Blow!

Here’s the full Parade of Steam at Cass Scenic Railroad on West Virginia Day June 20, 2026. The Parade of Steam at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is one of the country’s premier steam railroad events and the largest parade of steam locomotives in the United States. Held each year, the event brings together nearly all of the railroad’s operational steam locomotives for a rare public display. Unlike a traditional parade through town, the locomotives are lined up and repeatedly move back and forth along the tracks in front of spectators. This allows visitors to experience multiple steam engines under power at the same time while hearing their whistles, watching the clouds of steam and smoke, and photographing them from the viewing area. The event is especially significant because Cass is home to the world’s largest collection of operational geared Shay steam locomotives. Many of these historic engines once hauled timber up the steep slopes of the surrounding mountains during West Virginia’s logging era. Seeing several of them operating together is something that happens only once each year.
