This is a video of a stroll through the old townscape that remains in the Reiwa era. Please take a look if you're interested. Takehara is known as "Little Kyoto of Aki" due to its history as a manor of Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto during the Heian period. Its symbol is the townscape preservation district, which has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government and exudes a tranquil atmosphere. During the Edo period, when the area rapidly developed as a salt production center, its economic strength led to the production of many outstanding scholars, including brothers Yori Shunsui, Shunpu, and Kyohei, as well as Rai Sanyo. The stately houses that were born out of the flourishing salt fields and townspeople's culture still retain their former appearance to this day. Today, I would like to take a walk through the Takehara Townscape Preservation District.
