The Colombian Association of Psychiatry issued a statement to the public calling for the preservation of dignity and the prevention of stigmatization of individuals for reasons related to their mental health. The statement came after President Gustavo Petro made public the medical records of Angie Rodríguez, the former director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency (DAPRE). In the document, the ACP expressed concern that, amidst public debate, psychiatric diagnoses, medical histories, or mental health conditions are being used as arguments to discredit, invalidate, or question the moral, intellectual, or professional capacity of individuals. The association noted that, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the stigma and discrimination associated with mental disorders constitute one of the main barriers to accessing medical care.
