This is a video about the compact cassette, better known as the audio cassette, audio cassette, or tape, or simply "cassette." Its original name is Compact Cassette, and "cassette" means "little box" in French, which is why the term is so widely used in so many ways. However, the magnetic tape storage and protection format for sound recording, invented in 1963 by Philips for dictation, i.e., recording only voice, gets its name because it's literally a little box that protects the magnetic tape.
