How to tie a feathered treble hook- 7 WAYS!!
I found some old spoons without feather tails and I just cannot have that. So I free-styled some variations on productive combos from the past. Spoons are fairly use to tie feathered trebles on. You really have to add a lot of weight to most spoons before you restrict its movement. Feathered trebles on lures is also a great option though you have to be more careful with the weight and materials. Lures are much more sensitive to weight on their tails. This is also a great time to add better hardware or change the size of hook. I often use a larger split ring as a replacement because it seems avoid scratching the finish on the spoons better than the original size of trebles. They must have better voodoo putting split rings than I do. I showed 7 options and there are many more to show the versatility of many tying products. You do not have the material listed its often not a problem. Using what you have often works and saves money for actually fishing. You can keep the finished heads small or use the thread head as a larger hotspot of color which I normally lean toward. Spoon #1 - All Bandaboo from Purple Taco. Great stuff and in this size there is no waste. The colors used are Bronze CL, Copper CL, and Gold CL. For the additional little flashier thing I used a 28 mm Big game shank cut in half and I rigged it in reverse. You can use anything you want I usually make twist eyes like you do in lure making but I am out of the wire. It’s super cheap and it is easy to ensure that it passes around the split ring easily. Spoon #2 - All Swimbait chenille from Montana Fly Tying Company. Great stuff Spoon #3 - This is for a knock spoon and some knock offs are great many are kind of lack luster. Adding a feather tail is an easy way to add movement, flash, and color to a normally boring spoon. Fairly traditionally with hackle. You want the hackle feathers to be cupping out. Next it added more Bandaboo in Chartreuse Holo Fish Scale because spoons are flashy and more is better right?! Spoon #4- I reverse tied the blue polar flash just because it seems to be easier avoiding the trebles. Holo Silver Fish Scale because yea its great. Spoon#5- This is a larger spoon so it can handle more materials. Speckled Copper Flashabou and blood quill marabou for the win. Spoon#6- Bandaboo and fox. You can use Arctic fox but marble and red fox is just as good and much cheaper. Spoon#7- Buck tail is just great.
