Letterkenny St. Patrick’s Day Parade 1988.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade video 1988 by Packie Keeney and introduced by Charlie Collins. This was the biggest parade of the 1980’s if not until the present day. The town had a relationship then with Letterkenny Army Camp in America and this was recognised by the committee. At the end of the video Charlie Collins interviews a number of people who sent messages to the Letterkenny Army Camp in the USA as recognition and appreciation of their friendship. Those interviewed included Neil Blaney TD, Paddy Harte TD, Senator Joachim Loughrey, Chairman of Letterkenny Urban Council P.J. Blake, and Margaret Doherty, Secretary of the festival committee. The RTE Cameras were there for the first time with their North-West correspondent Tommy Gorman, which added a lot to the excitement of the occassion. (Excuse the primitive video editing facilities of the 1980’s !)
