Unicron is the closest thing Transformers has to a god of destruction: a mechanical planet that devoured entire worlds, possessed its own servants, and became the Earth itself, depending on who was telling the story. This is everything Unicron has ever done and why no version of the franchise has been able to kill him cleanly. Unicron in the beginning. In the dominant cross-continuity mythology, a primordial omnipotent entity called The One created a single being and divided it into two: Unicron and Primus. Primus became Cybertron. Unicron became its opposite: chaos to Primus's order, destruction to his creation. The Matrix of Leadership, that gold relic carried by Autobot leaders across every generation, is a portion of Primus's lifeforce. Which is also why it is the one thing Unicron explicitly named as his only weakness. The origin shifts depending on the continuity. The Generation One cartoon gives him a different creator: an ancient being called Primacron built him at the universe's dawn, and Unicron immediately turned on his creator and escaped.
