Kyocera Echo (2011) | Strange Phones | Worlds First Dual-Screen Phone

Welcome to another video in my Strange Phones playlist. In this series of videos, I analyze a specific strange design choice or feature on a phone and give you my reasoning as to why such an engineering decision was made. In this episode, we have the 2011 Kyocera Echo. Better known as the worlds first dual-screen phone or first phone with 2 displays. The Echo was launched at a time where the mobile industry was in a great state of change. Nokia was losing popularity and Apple and Samsung were on the rise. Kyocera, a Japanese manufacturer with a strong reputation for doing a lot of "firsts" in the mobile industry such as the worlds first camera phone, the Kyocera VP-210, came out with the Echo. The worlds first true dual screen phone. Featuring 2 3.5 inch displays that combine to form a 4.9 inch tablet mode display. The kyocera echo has multiple modes such as tablet mode, simultaneous task mode, optimized mode and single screen mode, all of which can be used in many different ways. Its one of the weirdest phones or strangest phones in existence and is definitely up there with the weird Nokia's and other strange phone designs. However, the Echo was a failure due to its basic specs and Android 2.3 Gingerbread not being able to properly make use and control a dual screen set up at the time.
