Graham Norton has successfully obtained a US court order requiring Meta to unmask the operator of a Facebook page called The Westminster Wire, which allegedly spent years publishing multiple false and defamatory posts about him per day. The page had eight point nine thousand followers. The content included false accusations of racist behaviour, fabricated reports about his personal life and health, and posts falsely claiming his ninety four year old mother had died. The court agreed the material went beyond commentary and amounted to a deliberate and ongoing harassment campaign based on falsehoods. Now consider the scale of what Meghan has faced. The accounts targeting Meghan are not measured in thousands of followers. They are measured in hundreds of thousands. Some of the most prominent anti-Meghan accounts on X, Facebook and YouTube have follower counts in the mid six figures. Several have been operating for years. Multiple accounts have made false claims about her children's paternity, her pregnancies, her medical records, her business dealings, her marriage and her mental health. Several have coordinated mass reporting campaigns against pro-Sussex accounts. Some have direct connections to tabloid journalists who have quoted them as fan reaction in national newspapers. Royal News Network, which the Daily Express cited as a credible source of fan opinion about the As Ever Strawberry Matcha collaboration, is one of these accounts. It exists exclusively to generate negative content about Harry and Meghan. If Meghan pursued the Graham Norton route against even three or four of the largest anonymous accounts spreading documented falsehoods about her, the legal discovery process would be extraordinarily revealing. Who operates them. Whether any have connections to palace adjacent figures or tabloid journalists. Whether coordinated campaigns have been run with institutional support. The reason this has not happened is partly strategic. The Sussex legal operation has focused on institutional targets, Associated Newspapers, News Group Newspapers, the Home Office. These cases produce precedents and settlements that change the landscape rather than individual accountability. But the Norton case demonstrates that the mechanism exists. Courts will order Meta to unmask anonymous accounts when the evidence of sustained defamatory harassment is sufficient.
