양평 중원계곡 Yangpyeong Jungwon Valley

Yangpyeong Jungwon Valley is located between Jungwonsan Mountain 780m east of Yongmunsan and Doilbong Peak 842m, and along the 6km-long valley, there are small waterfalls, ponds, and dams such as Jungwon Falls, Chima Falls, and Sangdan Falls. Many vacationers visit in the summer, making it a popular hiking destination for families. During the rainy season, the recreational facilities at the entrance to Jungwon Valley are cleaned up for the summer vacation season. If you climb the valley road for about 15 minutes from the Jungwon Valley parking lot, you will come across the three-tiered Jungwon Falls with the roaring sound of water. Although it is less than 10m high, it is surrounded by rocky cliffs that resemble a folding screen, creating a spectacular view. Below the water that falls down like white foam, there is a wide, deep pond in the color of the beach. During the rainy season, when the water volume is high, entry is prohibited. The valley floor, which was swept away by heavy rain, is filled with clean pebbles and clear water with almost no floating objects from the mountains. Even though the scorching heat continues in the summer, the valley in the forest here feels the cool breeze created by the spray of water, and the cold water of the valley forming a wide wall is home to willow trout. To get to Jungwon Valley by public transportation, take a bus from Yongmun City to Jungwon-ri and get off at the last stop. If you take a car, go 10km along National Road No. 6 from Yangpyeong toward Yongmun, and you will reach the entrance to Yongmunsa Temple. From the intersection, go 6km further along County Road No. 4 toward Johyeon-ri on the right side of Deokchon Intersection, and you will find a parking lot at the entrance to the valley above the village.
