Located in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, known as the first qibla for Muslims, the Dome of the Rock is where the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven. Our Prophet rode here on his mount, Buraq, and ascended here as well. He then led prayers in the Dome of the Rock for all the prophets from Adam to him. Built by the Caliph Omar, this site later gained a golden dome during the Umayyad period. It was also decorated with tiles by Suleiman the Magnificent. Today, it is one of three places Muslims must visit: Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem. Places of worship for all religions are located here. Al-Aqsa Mosque is accessible only to Muslims. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter. Palestinian and Israeli soldiers check their IDs before entering. The Al-Aqsa Mosque bears significant Ottoman influence. This site, which holds great significance for Muslims, was naturally also served by the Ottomans. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is a rectangular structure comprised of religious sites built on 150 acres of land. At its center stands the Dome of the Rock, which shines like the sun and was built during the conquest of Jerusalem during the reign of Caliph Omar.
