On September 19th, a volcano erupted on La Palma, a Spanish Canary Island, often called the "Hawaii of Europe." Lava, spewing out a massive 300-meter-high column of fire, destroyed 460 buildings and farmland and forests equivalent to half the size of Yeouido. The eruption displaced over 7,000 people and severely damaged the banana industry, a key source of livelihood in the region. With the lava still flowing, tensions remain high due to concerns about further eruptions and the potential release of toxic gases if the lava meets the sea.
