Mama Bank - The Women’s Micro Bank in Papua New Guinea
Mama Bank Access Points are mini bank setups by the Women’s Micro Bank Limited (WMBL) in Papua New Guinea. Unlike the bank’s normal bank branches, the Mama Bank Access Points operate using a tablet connected to a biometric fingerprint reader. A new customer is onboarded onto the system after their fingerprints have been scanned. Allowing customers to use their fingerprints to transact. The Mama Bank points bring banking services closer to larger rural communities where many essential services still cannot be found. The first Mama Banks opened in Morata, Port Moresby in March 2019, followed by other locations in Wewak, Madang, Maprik and Goroka. And now this new location at Gordon’s market in Port Moresby.
