Обзор г.Малко Тырново
Today we'll head south to the Turkish border. There, a single town awaits us, located in Bulgaria's largest natural park, Strandzha. The road is in fairly good condition, and local motorcyclists often take their horses for a ride here. Malko Tarnovo is located in the Burgas region and has a population of just over 2,000, down from three times that number a century ago. The town itself was founded in the early 17th century by settlers from nearby villages, or by settlers from Veliko Tarnovo, or perhaps even by Thracians long before that—these are all theories about the town's origins. Since its founding, people have been engaged in cattle breeding and marble mining, which, incidentally, was used to build the cities of Odrin and Tsarigrad. It was also the center of revolutionary struggle at the beginning of the last century, and towns, villages, and streets in Bulgaria are named after revolutionaries. The town's history can be traced through plaques, memorials, and pedestals (though to discover this, you'll have to do a fair bit of exploring). There's a monument to the soldiers from the pioneers, a monument to fallen border guards, and many others. While walking around the city, I noticed a loud hum coming from the treetops – yes, those were bees. The nature here is lush, and the flora and fauna are incredible. It's no wonder, considering Malko Tarnovo is surrounded by the largest natural park, Strandzha. Strandzha Nature Park covers over a thousand square kilometers, and many of the trees here are over five hundred years old. 80% of the park is forest, so naturalists will have a field day here. While filming, vintage cars popped into the frame here and there, like a Lada. The swallow itself is a bit faded, but you can still tell it's well-maintained. Places like these take me back to my childhood, when cars weren't locked. Now let's travel back in time to the 1980s. Then, the Bulgarian Council of Ministers adopted Resolution 22 on the development of sparsely populated regions of Bulgaria, with priority given to the Strandzha and Sakar districts. The document itself envisaged sending several thousand young specialists to the regions for their development, a direct program for the development of industry, agriculture, and the construction of social and technical infrastructure. Hundreds of young families signed the agreement and set off for Malko Tarnovo, Elhovo, Bolyarovo, Svilengrad, and other places. People were given starting allowances of several thousand leva, partial tax exemptions, and free housing. But all this was subject to the condition that they had to live and work in the region for at least ten years. The 1980s were golden years for the development of the city and the community. A large cosmetics factory opened, and a year later, a branch of the Institute of Technical Cybernetics was established. But the 1990s arrived, and with the departure of Todor Zhivkov, this wonderful program fizzled out, and everything quickly began to fall apart, with people fleeing. Until the 2000s, nothing happened except for the population leaving, and only later did subtle positive changes gradually begin to occur. Investments, albeit small, began in infrastructure, sewer lines, street paving, renovation of prefabricated and other buildings, and much more. The tomb of the goddess Bastet is located somewhere here, and these sites attract archaeologists, historians, and enthusiasts of various theories. The tomb itself has not been thoroughly studied. The daughter of the General Secretary of Bulgaria was involved in culture and art at the time. It was she who organized an expedition to find the tomb, and even visited Vanga, although Vanga advised against it. Ultimately, the expedition finally reached the site, and some time later, Lyudmila Zhivkova died, and the information was kept strictly classified. For those considering this place for permanent residence, the infrastructure is there: shops, cafes, a bank branch, a post office, a kindergarten, a secondary school, and a bus station with buses to Burgas three times a day, according to Google. If you're looking for work, it's definitely not here. But if you don't need company and people, but rather ecology, peace and quiet, and quality of life, it's a great choice. It's clear that this place isn't suitable for everyone for a number of reasons. Young people and families need schools, shopping centers, and other entertainment options. Malko Tarnovo is a very quiet and peaceful place, despite being a city with infrastructure. So, if you're itching for the sea, hop on a bus and go. After all, buying property for ten euros, even in a provincial town, even if it's in need of renovation, is a perfectly viable option for affluent retirees with no pretensions.
