Camborne (Dolcoath) Level Crossing, Cornwall

Date filmed: 13/09/2022 Video filmed at 11:52 Route: Cornish Main Line Between Redruth and Camborne Stations Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barriers crossing with Obstacle Detection (MCB-OD) Location: Lower Pengegon, Camborne Trains featured: Class 43 HST 'Castle Set' (Great Western Railway) - 1:58 Gloucester ➡ Penzance A fairly quiet level crossing with an obstacle detection system found next to a footbridge located in the east of the Cornish town of Camborne, the most easterly of the three public highway level crossings within the town. The remains of a pumping engine house provide a great back-drop looking in the direction of Penzance from the footbridge (over the level crossing). In 2018, this level crossing was converted from an automatic half barrier level crossing to a full-barrier level crossing which is scanned by an obstacle detection system as it lowers when a train is detected approaching. There is a total of four E2S 'Apello' alarms here. Quite a lot of rail traffic over this level crossing is actually still in the form of Class 43 HSTs, albeit shortened versions used on regional routes in the South West, surprisingly enough.
