The Zaydi Shia are a branch of Shia Islam. They are a Shia Islamic religious sect, tracing their lineage back to Zayd ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib. They were historically present in Najd, North Africa, and around the Caspian Sea. They are sometimes called the Hadiyya, but this name refers specifically to the only remaining branch within Zaydism, named after Imam al-Hadi ila al-Haqq Yahya ibn al-Husayn al-Rassi al-Hashimi, who fought the Qarmatians and was granted the Imamate in Yemen.
