1935 Riley 12/4 Lynx (22T Series) -68 Years in One Ownership - NOW RESERVED with Robin Lawton Cars
Just Arrived at The Garage 1935 Riley 12/4 Lynx (22T Series) | 68 Years in One Ownership Few pre-war motor cars can boast such remarkable provenance. This attractive Riley 12/4 Lynx has remained in the ownership of the same enthusiast since 1958, an extraordinary 68 years. Few surviving pre-war cars can claim such remarkable continuity of ownership. During that time the car has been carefully maintained, extensively restored and enjoyed as intended. One of the most desirable and sought-after of all pre-war Rileys, the Lynx combines handsome sporting coachwork with genuine practicality. With four doors, comfortable accommodation and lively performance from the famous 12/4 engine, it remains one of the most usable and enjoyable Riley models of the period. Registered in Cornwall in March 1935, this example is one of the earlier 22T Series cars, distinguished by its front doors being hinged from the A-post, a feature rarely encountered today. During its long-term ownership, the car has benefitted from extensive restoration and considerable expenditure, with work entrusted to well-regarded Riley specialists. The body frame has been completely replaced, with photographs documenting the work, and a comprehensive restoration has been carried out over a number of years. The engine has also been rebuilt to near 'Sprite' specification and professionally set up on a rolling road. The history file is substantial and includes documentation dating back to the owner's acquisition of the car in 1958, together with numerous old photographs, previous MOT certificates and supporting paperwork accumulated over many decades. There are also more recent photographs showing the rebuild and the completed car. Finished in striking red livery (paint code VW Red ref: 28751), the car presents extremely well and is supplied with full weather equipment including hood, hood bag and tonneau cover. Combining exceptional provenance, remarkable 68-year single ownership and attractive early features such as the front-hinged doors and scuttle-mounted trafficators, this is a particularly appealing Riley Lynx and one that would be difficult to replicate today. Considerable sums have been invested over many years to ensure the car is presented at its very best. Viewings are strictly by appointment.
