🚧 The Forgotten Drewitz Border Crossing – A Lost Place of German Division 🚧 In this video, we take you to one of the most historic, yet now almost forgotten, sites of the Berlin Wall: the former Drewitz border crossing on the Teltow Canal. 🇩🇪 The Drewitz border bridge, located south of Berlin, was a central checkpoint between West Berlin and the GDR. For decades, transit traffic rolled across this bridge – it was a bottleneck, a place of strict controls, and a symbol of German division. Countless trucks and cars passed through here every day on their way to and from West Berlin. The border crossing connected the West Berlin A115 Autobahn (then AVUS) with the GDR and continued towards Helmstedt – the so-called "transit corridor" to West Germany. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the checkpoint suddenly lost its significance. Today, all that remains are abandoned checkpoints, dilapidated roadways, and rusty signs, silently bearing witness to a time when people and goods were meticulously monitored here.
