To understand this decision it's important to understand the strategy and reasoning behind it. There are 3 motivating factors reasons lined up for me at the same time, and unlike any card before pretty much none of these actually have to do with something special the card does itself. Reason #1 was family, reason #2 was opportunity/sign-up bonus, and reason #3 was American Express' family language. I think that if you’re in the same position and have a vision on how you could put Delta Skymiles to use, then you might be a prime candidate for a similar strategy as well.
