What Jesus Said by the Fire to Restore Peter's Authority
After Peter denied Jesus three times, he was wrecked with guilt. The enemy's voice was relentless: "You failed. You're a coward. You forfeited your calling. How could He ever use you again?" But when Jesus met Peter by the fire in John 21, He didn't scold him. He didn't make him earn his way back. He did something that INSTANTLY restored Peter's authority. Most believers read John 21 as Jesus giving Peter a "second chance"—as if Peter had to prove himself worthy again. But that's not what happened by that fire. Jesus wasn't addressing Peter's PERFORMANCE. He was addressing Peter's POSITION. 🔥 What Really Happened by the Fire (John 21:15-17): Jesus built a charcoal fire—the SAME kind of fire where Peter denied Him (John 18:18). He recreated the scene. Why? Because Jesus doesn't avoid our places of failure. He meets us there. He REDEEMS the very setting where we fell. Then Jesus asked Peter THREE questions—one for each denial. But He wasn't punishing Peter. He was REVERSING the denial. Each time Peter answered, Jesus gave him a commission: 1st question → "Feed my lambs" 2nd question → "Tend my sheep" 3rd question → "Feed my sheep" Jesus didn't wait for Peter to feel worthy. He spoke IDENTITY over him in the middle of his shame. He restored him to PURPOSE before Peter even felt forgiven. • Peter's authority was NEVER taken away—he just forgot he had it • Failure doesn't disqualify you—condemnation does • Conviction draws you to the cross; condemnation drives you away • Authority without confidence is useless • The gap between what's TRUE and what you BELIEVE is where the enemy operates In Acts 3, Peter healed the lame man "in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth"—the same name he denied knowing. The man who couldn't admit he knew Jesus in front of a servant girl is now healing people publicly. What changed? Not his authority—his CONFIDENCE in that authority. The fire restored Peter's perception to match the truth. You are NOT disqualified. Your authority NEVER left. You just forgot.
