From the ‘Sharklets’ mounted on the wingtips of the Airbus A320 to the wing and fuselage structures of Boeing aircraft, landing gear, and specialized aviation materials, Korean companies are moving beyond the level of directly assembling finished aircraft to entering the core supply chain of the global aviation industry. Korean Air won the contract for the Airbus Sharklet project, beating out competition from Japanese, French, and German companies, and recorded a cumulative total of 5,000 units in April 2026 following its first delivery in 2012. KAI supplies wings and fuselage structures for various aircraft models ranging from the Boeing 737 to the 787, while SeAH Aerospace & Defense Materials supplies aviation materials to Boeing, Airbus, COMAC, Embraer, and Bombardier.
