Mullet vs 27.5 - Does It Make a Difference? Pivot Mach 6 Testing

We have had a ton of fun on the dual-27.5" equipped Pivot Mach 6. However, we were curious to see how notable the differences would be if we converted this ultimate play machine to a mixed wheel configuration. Focusing on timed runs and performance benefits through detailed trail testing at the local bike park, Mt. Bachelor. After a year of riding the ‪@pivotcyclesusa‬ Mach 6 in various environments like Whistler Bike Park and local trails, we compare the agility, handling, and speed by timing short trail segments. The mullet setup offers smoother front-end performance, better comfort over rough terrain, and a slight speed advantage (around 3%) in timed runs, especially on longer descents where fatigue matters. Meanwhile, the full 27.5 setup shines in tight, technical sections with greater playfulness and quicker direction changes due to its smaller front wheel. Geometry and handling differences—such as reach, bottom bracket height, and head tube angle—are noticeable but not detrimental. Drew personally prefers the mullet setup for its blend of speed, comfort, and versatility, especially as a less aggressive jumper. The video combines practical testing with personal insights and encourages viewer feedback to improve future experiments, making it an engaging resource for riders weighing their wheel options.
