Park Chan-wook Receives France’s Highest Order of Arts and Letters at Cannes Film Festival (Seoul = Yonhap News) Director Park Chan-wook, the president of the jury at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival, has received the highest-ranking Order of Arts and Letters from the French government. French Culture Minister Catherine Pégard presented Director Park with the Commander Order in Cannes on the 17th (local time). The Order of Arts and Letters is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding creative activity in the fields of art and literature or contributed to raising the international standing of French culture; among the three ranks—Chevalier, Officier, and Commander—the Commander is the highest. In his acceptance speech, Director Park stated that French cinema and philosophy have had a tremendous influence on his body of work, saying, "I felt as though all the influences I received in France were being synthesized within me."
