The Great Barrier Reef, at 350,000 square kilometers, is the largest continuous coral reef on Earth and is in danger. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it is home to corals, which form the foundation of the ecosystem. Climate change is threatening this habitat. Marine biologists are now cultivating corals there that can survive even at high temperatures, so that the ecosystem can recover permanently, even with changing climatic conditions.
