They Moved A 750 Ton 1878 Mansion! Before & After
Can you move a 750-ton mansion on rubber tires? In 2014, Greenville, SC historic preservationists did the impossible to save the iconic 1878 Wilkins House from the bulldozer. Watch the incredible transformation from a Gilded Age estate, to a white-painted 20th-century funeral home, to its massive quarter-mile rolling journey down the street. The only surviving photos from this era come from an old funeral home promotional brochure. See what this triple-brick Italianate masterpiece looks like today as a stunning restored private residence, complete with a discreet new wing added to the back for modern everyday living. What do you think of this insane move? Let me know in the comments! #history #architecture
