Of course SOME of them do, but rebound relationships, by far have a very bad reputation of crashing in a dramatic and catastrophic way. Why is that? The reason why is because of emotional unavailability. Immediately after a breakup pretty much everyone is at least temporarily emotionally unavailable. And because of this, most rebound relationships are started from a poor emotional foundation. Instead of being based on an organic connection that naturally develops between two people, these relationships are built on ideals and expectation. Do rebound relationships work out long term? It's possible, but the emotional connection must develop organically. There is also a high level of displacement that happens in a typical rebound relationship, where the relationship is "fast forwarded" to look like the level of commitment that existed in the previous relationship. This results in a lot of people getting in over their head too soon, too fast. And when you realize that you're swimming in the deep end with someone who you may not even be compatible with, that is a recipe for problems. Plus, as the emotional availability starts to come back to the people involved in the relationship, it can challenging to listen to someone deal with their issues about their ex and their breakup. This can result in feelings of jealousy, insecurity, and resentment. ("Why do you talk so much about your ex all the time? Are you still in love with them?") This is a challenging situation for a lot of people to be in, and because of this, many rebound relationships just end up doing what many troubled relationships do... They end in a breakup.
