As an iconic work in the field of spectral music and a great "classic" of art music in the second half of the 20th century, it is also a landmark work in the contemporary orchestral repertoire, with original soundscapes and textures that were absolutely new for its time. The videos in this issue of Musimédiane are the result of a team effort by members of the University of Strasbourg's LabEx GREAM research centre (now the "CREAA" Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute) involving rehearsals of Gérard Grisey's works with the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) student orchestra for their concert at the Tonhalle in Zürich on 22 April 2016, conducted by Pierre-André Valade. These videos comprise extracts from rehearsals and interviews with the conductor and the young musicians. They are a rich source of information for in-depth understanding of the works, for musical analysis and for teaching purposes. They can be used by conductors to solve many specific musical or technical problems, or by musicians to better understand the composer's intentions in given passages of the works; they can also be used by music lovers to discover the richness of this orchestral cycle, to appreciate Pierre-André Valade's decades of experience with this music, and to understand what the young musicians feel about this music through the filmed interviews.
