Project Team Leadership: 5 Tips for Leading Your Project Team

As soon as you get your own project team to lead, you will need to develop the craft of project team leadership. In this video, I share five of my best tips. Tip 1: Direction At the outset, your team needs clear direction As they mature, let them direct themselves Tip 2: Support Support relationship building when it’s needed Then get out of the way Tip 3: Demeanor Never under-estimate the impact that your demeanour will have on your team. Tip 4: Motivation Intrinsic Motivation trumps Extrinsic Motivation. To motivate your team, give them: Clear purpose Autonomy to make choices Opportunity to develop mastery of what they are doing An environment of respect Recognition for their contributions A chance to build strong relationships Tip 5: Feedback Give team members feedback on their performance. Do it to give them a BOOST.
