Arata Hamawaki - Cartesian Skepticism, Kantian Skepticism, and Two Conceptions of Self-consciousness

In this video, I take a look at Arata Hamawaki's paper "Cartesian Skepticism, Kantian Skepticism, and Two Conceptions of Self-consciousness" which was published in The Logical Alien (editor Sofia Miguens, main author James Conant). Hamwaki uses the distinction between Cartesian and Kantian scepticism to pursue the idea that we must distinguish between self-consciousness as 'observing the theatre of the mind' and self-consciousness as activity. The first leads to scepticism, the second to philosophical insight. Victor Gijsbers teaches philosophy at Leiden University in the Netherlands. This video is part of an ongoing look at various philosophical papers:    • Philosophical Papers
