Moments from popular Liverpool park as it looked back in the day

One of the most popular and historic public spaces in our city, Stanley Park in Anfield sees thousands visit every week. The Victorian park opened to the public in 1870 and was designed by renowned landscape designer, Edward Kemp. Throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries, numerous features were added to the Grade II* park, such as the introduction of the Grade II listed conservatory and bandstand, both added in 1899, the Liverpool ECHO previously reported. Bowling greens were also created in the early and mid-20th century, as well as an open-air theatre in the 1940s - and many will also remember it once had its own open-air swimming pool. The park was also famously the original home of Everton FC.
