France – Algeria Anatomy of a Rupture Benjamin Stora, historian, specialist in contemporary Algeria and Algerian immigration to France, author of, among other works, *France - Algeria, Anatomy of a Rupture*, with Thomas Snégaroff (Les Arènes, 2025) Two centuries of domination, struggles, exiles... and memories that remain irreconcilable. For over 60 years, relations between France and Algeria have oscillated between diplomatic tensions, raw memories, and competing narratives. Inherited from 132 years of colonization and a bloody war of independence, this shared history remains a burning issue on both sides of the Mediterranean.
