How a Miyawaki plantation has brought nature back into Vadodara

The Miyawaki urban forest around Vadodara’s Chhani Lake, developed under the CapaCITIES project, has created a green space for residents. Local businessman Amit Patel speaks of how the tree plantation has reduced heat and invited more birds to the area. For a decade, the CapaCITIES project has been at the forefront of driving low-carbon, climate-resilient urban development across India. Launched in 2016 and funded by the Embassy of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, the project was technically implemented by ICLEI South Asia, South Pole and econcept, in collaboration with the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA). By strengthening local capabilities and aligning local urban action with national missions and state-level climate goals, CapaCITIES has supported India’s objective of achieving net-zero emissions.
