2857 & 1501 Finale | 'Severn Valley Railway' January 2nd 2023

What's become some what of a tradition for me now, I headed over once again to capture the closing day of the Severn Valley Railways running season for the year. However this particular day was something special. Monday the 2nd of January 2023 would be the last operational day for two of the SVR's stalwart locomotives as they come to the end of their 10 years of boiler certificate. GWR Churchward 2-8-0 2857 and Hawksworth Pannier 1501 would both have their fires drop at the end of the days running for the last time. The members of the 2857 owning group made the day particularly special by arranging the loco to be matched with the SVR's rake of GWR profile coaches, with a special Dining service also attached. This would see the 2-8-0 in charge of 10 coaches as it's grand finale. With the weather conditions very in our favour for the day, it was certainly a magnificent sight seeing the two locos getting a proper send off. Of particular note was the number of people who turned out to see the locos, both on the train and on the lineside. 40106 was also in action on the third set, and provided some excellent diesel entertainment as well.
