Ukrainian defenders are already aiming to completely cut off Crimea from mainland Russia and create conditions preventing Russia from supplying Crimea with any military resources. This was stated by military expert Oleksandr Musienko, a serviceman in the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in a comment to a UNIAN correspondent. In particular, he answered the question of whether it is possible to completely cut off occupied Crimea from Russian logistics. "It is possible to create sufficiently serious conditions to make it look, if not like a blockade, then like a semi-blockade," Musienko is convinced. The serviceman noted that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are currently continuing an operation that has been ongoing for several months, effectively cutting off Russian territory from the bridge connecting it with temporarily occupied Crimea. "That is, from the sea, we see that occupied Crimea is cut off. Because there have been defeats and there are threats of destruction of the Kerch Bridge. The crossing there, and essentially the only ferry that carried the railway from Russian territory to occupied Crimea, was damaged. Furthermore, we see that work is continuing to cut the peninsula off from occupied southern Ukraine. Therefore, we can say that we are already seeing what could be called a kind of conditional blockade. It already exists," Musienko emphasized. At the same time, as the expert noted, this blockade is not yet final, as it is understood that the enemy will seek ways and means to circumvent it. However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces will counter this. "I can say that strategically, the course to increasingly block the enemy in the south has been set. And I think they won't deviate from this course," Musienko emphasized. "This is very important, because from the very moment of the illegal annexation of the Crimean Peninsula, Russia, in principle, pursued the goal of Crimea becoming a kind of unsinkable aircraft carrier, as they called it," the expert said. According to him, the Russian invaders militarized Crimea because, according to the logic of the Russian occupation authorities, the peninsula was supposed to become the site of maximum logistical support for Russian troops. For example, in 2022, Crimea played a crucial role in a full-scale invasion of Russian troops from the south. Moreover, the military officer added that Russia also planned to use the peninsula to ensure dominance in the Black Sea and secure a route to the Mediterranean Sea. "And, in fact, today there's no talk of Russia dominating the Black Sea. We're already seriously cutting Russia off from the sea. And there's no talk of their capabilities or any encroachment on the Mediterranean," Musienko emphasized. At the same time, as the military expert notes, the Ukrainian Defense Forces will now focus, among other things, on striking long-range drone and missile launch sites from the occupied peninsula in Odessa and the Odessa region. "Because there's a risk now, given the increasing seasonality of exports from Odesa, that the enemy could intensify its terror against our Black Sea ports. Therefore, for us, the demilitarization of Crimea also means greater relative security for our maritime trade routes, our sea gates. And, in principle, this work will be carried out," he is convinced. Could the Crimea blockade change Russia's calculations regarding Crimea as a military base? "I think it's already making a difference. I think, firstly, that for those who truly look at things rationally, this is already obvious. Secondly, I think this blockade of Crimea will show us all – the whole world, Ukraine, and Russia – that Crimea is Ukrainian not only in terms of international law, our territorial integrity, and sovereignty, but also in terms of geopolitics and geography," Musienko noted.
