The dissident recounted that State Security agents transferred him to a protocol house near Guanabo before expelling him to Miami on July 9. According to Otero Alcántara, the proposal of exile was presented to him during the first year of his sentence, when State Security agents warned him that he would never again walk freely on the streets of Cuba. Activist Anamely Ramos, according to the artist himself, was his main link to the outside world during the humanitarian parole process, maintaining regular calls under official supervision while the immigration procedures were underway. The dissident explained that, days before his release, he was transferred along with other prisoners to a 1950s Brutalist-style house with a swimming pool, where he remained under constant surveillance until boarding his flight. According to his account, the dictatorship's objective was to minimize any tension before his departure, an episode he described as part of a pattern of psychological pressure sustained throughout his five years of imprisonment. Cubans Around the World points out that Otero Alcántara's case is similar to that of other Cuban political prisoners whose release has been conditioned on accepting exile, a practice denounced by activists like Anamely Ramos. The artist compared his situation to that of other political prisoners, such as José Daniel Ferrer, and warned that not all receive the same treatment or media attention during their imprisonment. Otero Alcántara stated that he expects further media reprisals from Cuban state television in the coming weeks.
