In this video, Professor John Ahr of the Online Jewelry Academy shows you how to quickly make hollow forms using a die. You can use this versatile technique to create all sorts of forms including beads, vessels and containers. A fun aspect to this process is making the die. You can cut a die from a variety of materials. In this video the die is cut from a piece of MDF. Safety precautions must be taken whenever you solder a hollow form shut. One of the most important is making sure that there is a hole through your piece. This hole helps to prevent the object from exploding by allowing internal pressure to equalize during the soldering process. You can highlight your piece with textures and finishes.
