In the Heart of the Mountain (Sinfonietta for Wind Orchestra)
Inspired by the Coves del Canelobre, in the municipality of Busot (Alicante), In the Heart of the Mountain stands as a sonic evocation of one of the most emblematic natural spaces of eastern Spain. The work seeks to transport the listener to a sound universe where geological time, the resonance of water, and the natural architecture of rock—characteristic features of these caves—become musical material. Conceived as a sinfonietta for wind orchestra, the score is distinguished by a carefully crafted timbral palette that generates a wide range of colors. From the opening measures, the musical discourse suggests a vast and reverberant space, where echoes and contrasting dynamics—from suspended pianissimos to highly intense tutti—build an immersive and almost ritual atmosphere. The work is structured in four movements that describe, from different perspectives, the experience of entering the cave, into the heart of the mountain: I- The Cave (Sonatina) II- Water and Rock (Lento) III- Stalactites and Stalagmites (Scherzo) IV- Eternal Time (Rondo) As a whole, In the Heart of the Mountain is not only a programmatic work, but also an invitation for the listener to hear silence, resonance, and the passage of time as structural elements of musical discourse, transforming natural space into a living sonic element.
