東武日光線前面展望南栗橋→栃木2024.11＜Cabview Japanrail TOBU Railway Nikko Line Minamikurihashi → Tochigi＞

This is a cab view of the Nikko Line of Tobu Railway, which forms a line network starting from Tokyo on the northern side of the Kanto Plain, from Minami-Kurihashi Station to Tochigi Station. The Tobu Nikko Line is the company's main line, stretching over 94 km from Asakusa to the international tourist city of Nikko. Many express trains run on it, and it is used by many tourists from overseas. The line runs along the Reiheishi Kaido, an old road that was built in the early 1800s. There are several towns along the way, but they are not very developed. This route was chosen as a countermeasure to the construction of the Tohoku Main Line of the Japanese National Railways along the Oshu Kaido, which also runs north from Tokyo. The JNR also operated many tourist trains from Tokyo to Nikko, and there was a fierce competition between the two companies to take over the transportation market share. However, this competition ended in 1960 when Tobu Railway began operating cars with luxurious facilities. Today, the Nikko Line still runs along the same route as when it first opened. There are fields along the line, and the views are also part of the line's charm. The line that continues from Asakusa branches off from Tobu Dobutsu Koen Station, a little south of Minami-Kurihashi Station, the starting point of this video, to the Isesaki Line, another main line of Tobu Railway. Limited express trains depart from Asakusa Station, but the line's name is the Nikko Line for the section north of Tobu Dobutsu Koen Station. Filmed in November 2024.
